Episode 2 ─ Jesus Martinez Manso, PhD

In our latest episode, we explore the career transition of Jesus Martinez Manso, PhD, who has gone from the world of academic astrophysics to working in data science as an engineer in Silicon Valley.

Jesus obtained his PhD in astrophysics at the University of Florida, investigating the relationship between dark matter and galaxies in the early universe. Then, he transitioned to data science in industry via the Insight Fellowship in Palo Alto, CA, and got his first job as a data scientist at Capital One. Later, he joined Planet Labs in San Francisco, an Earth observation company, where he has been working on computer vision and now manages engineering teams that build automated detection systems of human infrastructure and forest variables. He is currently a Senior Engineering Manager at Planet Labs. 

The typical salary range for a Senior Engineering Manager is $150,000-$250,000 a year. Companies usually also give additional equity, stock options, or bonuses.
